a+b architectural design lab is a Princeton, New Jersey based architectural design studio. We focus on architecture and design across all scales, ranges and programs with an emphasis on complete collaborative design. Our studio work together started in NYC in 1996. Our practice has worked on a wide variety of residential and commercial projects that involve ground up construction, additions, renovations, space planning, site design and interior design. While a majority of our work has been residential, we have also designed retail spaces, restaurants and cafes, as well as having worked with corporate and institutional clients. Our projects have been located in New York City and the North East, as well as in other parts of the country and overseas.

Our approach starts with an understanding of our clients’ needs, which enables us to create a sophisticated and elegant, functional, comfortable space that at its core reflects our clients wishes, personality and lifestyle in every aspect.

 

We always explore and incorporate essential architectural elements: space, light, movement, scale, perception, materials and their impact. These elements guide us through the creation of form and function with inventive exploration of the specific project framework. In the context of the project we take into account conditions; program, budget, site, sustainability, operation, functionality, culture, technology, branding and image as is relevant. Working with all of these components, we create designs that are simultaneously functional and innovative. The result is great visual depth and sophistication, complexity and personality. We strive to have our work speak for itself.

Our design approach is unique to each project, but still explores primary architectural concerns. During the design phase, we work closely with our clients and all those responsible for the implementation of the design.  We are committed to looking for an elegant, bespoke solution, emphasizing flexibility with design and integrity.  The complexity of our design is hidden by a sense of simplicity. It is our objective to have our finished project feel as though it is how it was always meant to be. Sustainability remains an integral part of our design process.
